Hi guys!
It is finally Saturday and the weather is beautiful here in Oklahoma, it was a beautiful morning to go get some goodies from the Farmers Market before it comes to an end for Winter.
So you might ask yourself what on earth can grow in Oklahoma??? well… sadly not much! compared to other cities (like California) of course; however, you should still try to get local produce as often as possible as it is the BEST way to eat. There are many studies and articles that show the benefits of eating local and seasonally, you can click here and here to read some good articles on the subject. Plus when you buy local you are helping your local growers and helping your community!!
Back to my morning haul, here are the things I got this morning which will be perfect for making some yummy salads and sweet potato meals during the week:
- Apples (Apples are one of the few fruits that can actually grow in Oklahoma, getting me a tree next year for sure!)
- Cucumbers
- Tomatoes
- sweet potatoes
- Beets
- Organic Lettuce
- Whole Milk (I don’t drink cow’s milk but my husband sometimes does)
- Homemade granola
- Rosemary plant
- Sunflowers!
- Bell peppers
It is so much fun to walk around and talk to the farmers that are so invested in the food they are growing, you certainly don’t get that at the grocery store!
I hope you get out and and enjoy this weather and try to stop by your farmers market next time you get a chance!
Love,
Yesika
